Partitioning the Memory Card
What is Partitioning the Memory Card?
Partitioning the Memory Card reserves a percentage of space for each type of recording.
This is beneficial to ensure that the footage is not corrupted when power is lost during an accident, and also extends the lifespan of the sd card.
There are 3 Different Options for Partitioning, Type A, B and C.
Partition Types:
Type A- Optimized for Continuous Recording
Type B- Optimized for Incident and Motion Detection in Parking Surveillance
Type C- Optimized for Continuous and Incident Recording
Percentages by Partition Type
All Recording Times below measured in 1080P using a 64GB SD Card. Contact us for specific specifications on 2K, 4K, and different sized SD Cards.

Micro SDCard
Please be advised that Thinkware MicroSD Cards are highly recommended as it is the only brand that is guaranteed to be compatible with our dashcams.Even though the non-Thinkware brand MicroSD meets the card requirements, each manufacturer uses slightly different file settings and systems that vary between batches. As such we cannot guarantee the performance or recommend non-Thinkware brand MicroSD cards with our products.
A reliable MicroSD card paired with the dashcam is vital because many lower-end MicroSD cards fail quickly and risk the loss of crucial footage. In our experience, the best MicroSD Card for your Thinkware Dash Cam is the Thinkware MicroSD Card.
Thinkware MicroSD Cards feature our “SPOR” technology. This “Sudden Power Off Recovery” ensures that no footage is lost due to corruption if power is lost suddenly.
Third-Party MicroSD Cards may potentially cause rebooting, lost footage, gaps in recording, and corruption of the MicroSD Card itself. This depends solely on the type and brand of MicroSD Card used.
Please note that using a third-party MicroSD card is at your own risk.
Rebooting due to corrupt MicroSD Card
When corrupt memory cards are inserted into our dashcams, the device continually restarts in an attempt to allocate space on the card to save its files.
